How to quit smoking quickly and easily

Smoking stories

In general, I got to know cigarettes around the 7th grade - my brother and I climbed construction sites and learned to smoke "on a whiff". Naturally, our parents forbade us to smoke, so we had to constantly find ways to hide cigarettes and get rid of the lingering smell of smoke.

Then came the companies where everyone also smoked. There was a kind of fashion, they say, if you don't smoke, then it's not cool. Everything is different now, but before, times were different. Then, surrounded by smokers, the habit took root more and more in me. I smoked whenever possible, and the likelihood of being burned by adults only gave the process more impetus.

But at the age of 16, I had a click on the head and decided to quit smoking. Only then, abruptly, by willpower. To be honest, there was a positive moment in that, though not for long. After a few weeks, I changed my mind, said I can smoke when I drink. That is, when I'm sober I don't smoke, but I can smoke at parties. And as you probably already guessed, I didn't stop there. Although there is a positive effect - for 4 years I smoked a little.

But there is also a major drawback to this method. Since there was a strong association of smoking with alcohol in my brain, I felt like drinking whenever I just wanted to smoke.

But I didn't stop there either. In my third year of studies at the university, I got a job in a taxi and there I already lit a full cigarette. He smoked almost a pack a day, and when he drank more. And this continued until the fall of 2017. That is, roughly speaking, my experience as a smoker was about 10 years.

How I stop smoking alone

Friends, in this chapter I will tell you how I went through the process of quitting smoking and then the exact way to do it. So, if you are too lazy to read, you can proceed to read the next chapter. It's just that many people ask me how I got it, but it's inconvenient to be smart, because the method is quite simple.

So, in October 2017, I woke up in the morning after a busy party and felt bad. I didn't get enough sleep, I had a bad headache because of the alcohol I drank the day before, the vestibular system didn't work properly. I smoked a cigarette and got in the car. The car was stuffy and smelled like the fragrance of herringbone. Also, I started to feel bad. In general, a full range of negative feelings.

At that moment, I started to feel bad and my mouth tasted like a recently smoked cigarette. I looked out the window: it was a beautiful autumn time outside, the sun was shining brightly and the leaves were falling from the trees. And then very pleasant memories of my childhood, linked to this climate and a similar landscape, flooded me. In me there was a pleasant association of the situation outside the window with that of childhood in which I felt good, and not like I do now in the car. What did I do next?

My 3 instant steps

  1. I just related intense suffering and negativity right now with a smoked cigarette. And I felt with my whole body that it was hers that I felt so bad now. It was not difficult to do this, because there was an unpleasant taste of tobacco in the mouth. In addition, it added constant shortness of breath and cash costs.
  2. Then I looked out the window again and completely associated the pleasant feeling with quitting smoking. Again, it was not difficult to do that, because in that childhood situation I did not smoke and I felt very well. In addition, I added the pleasant feeling that without cigarettes I can safely climb stairs and not suffocate. I also added monetary advantages: if I don't buy cigarettes, I can buy something useful for myself.
  3. At the height of my emotional state, I made a clear and conscious decision to quit smoking forever.

It all took me about 10 seconds. The emotional balance was so strong that I immediately threw the package into the trash.

But these steps will not be enough in the long run, so I had to apply a few more steps, which also worked successfully. You will read about them a little below.

Now, the fun part. I managed to stop smoking by chance. I didn't prepare for this decision, I didn't go to the doctors, I didn't buy chewing gum, plasters, sprays and other nonsense. A few months later, I started reading Tony Robbins' book on self-development and discovered exactly those methods that I applied without knowing it!

6 steps to get rid of addiction

These principles are based on neurosociative conditioning. Here they are:

  1. Make a clear and informed decision about why you want to stop smoking. You want it, not your loved ones.
  2. Use Leverage: link intense emotional pleasure to quitting now, and intense suffering if you don't do it now. Do something similar to what I did or think of a different way of doing it. Most importantly, you need to feel strong emotions and associate them with smoking.
  3. We need to break the old behavior. For example, I used to go to the smoking room at work and discuss business with my colleagues, sipping smoke. After I stopped smoking, I started communicating with them in "non-smoking" places.
  4. Create a new alternative. But this stage, friends, is the most important one if you are focused on the long term. The fact is that it is not enough to stop smoking. You need to replace the pleasure that cigarettes give you with something else. Something that will not have side effects. For example, instead of smoking with friends, he watched an interesting TV series or drank tea. You need to find a stimulating alternative to smoking for yourself by examining the reasons why you smoke. Say you took a cigarette when you started to worry. Exercising or achieving a short-term goal helps a lot with this feeling.
  5. You need to install "forever" instead of "at least a week". And repeat the steps above until it becomes a habit. It took me about 3 weeks to do this.
  6. Create a reward system. This is a very important step. You should know that if you don't smoke today, you can afford to buy a cute little thing; if it is a week, then the thing is bigger; if a month, vacation abroad. I did just that - I constantly encouraged myself until the habit completely disappeared.

Conclusion

Friends, the problem of smoking is mainly a psychological addiction, not a physical one. There is a huge list of ways to stop smoking. Replace a regular cigarette with an electronic one, put a sticker, chew gum. If you open a search engine and ask how you can quit smoking on your own, you will see a lot of drugs, services and ridiculous ways.

Tell me at least one person who put on the cast and got rid of the addiction. For example, I don't know these people. The fact is that all of these drugs only partially relieve physical addiction. And she, believe me, is no longer as strong. But this is a profitable business, because people buy. They buy and expect a miracle method that works for them. This will not happen.

This fairly easy way helped me to stop smoking on my own. Therefore, I recommend it to you too.
